Message from the Founder
I once spoke with the CEO of an industrial company who was confident their systems were secure. They had firewalls, monitoring, and a team watching dashboards around the clock.
Then a third-party engineer connected to their network and modified a PLC setpoint. No one detected it. No alert was triggered. The change went unnoticed for weeks — until an entire batch of output had to be scrapped.
The monitoring tools saw the connection. They logged the session. But they did nothing to prevent the change.
Visibility shows you the problem. It does not prevent it.
That conversation stayed with me. It confirmed what I had seen across dozens of industrial sites: the biggest risk is not the threat you can see — it is the change you cannot stop.
That is why we built First Watch. Not to add another layer of monitoring, but to enforce control over what is allowed to happen in your operational environment.
Because if you cannot control changes, you cannot protect the system.
History of First Watch
Founded in 2019 as a partnership between the University of Waikato and Combined Technologies (CTEK) Automation Engineering Ltd, First Watch evolved from research focused on protecting critical infrastructure into a cybersecurity platform designed to prevent attacks on OT environments.
